Mallorca, the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands, is famous for its turquoise beaches. There are many places to explore on the island, but first, I want to talk about the beaches that we couldn't get enough of.

First, let me mention that the island gets crowded during July and August. If you're vacationing without children, I recommend visiting in June or September. I must add that the crowds were not bothersome. As someone who lived in Istanbul for 10 years and dislikes crowds, it didn’t bother me at all.

Since there are living areas and beaches all over the island, tourists are not concentrated in one area. So even if you visit during the summer season, you can still enjoy a peaceful vacation. Most of the beaches are in small coves, and the front sections are public and free. You can lay down your towel and immediately enjoy the turquoise waters.

It’s hard not to wonder how the crystal-clear waters retain their color despite the crowds. There are so many beautiful beaches around the island that I don’t even know where to begin. I think I should start with the beach where the old man selling fruit from his small cart and his cheerful phrases have a special place in our memories. 😊

Cala D’or (Southeast section)

Cala d’Or is a small holiday resort on Mallorca’s southeastern coast. With a small, charming town center and romantic coves, it’s one of the most beautiful places to stay on the island. This small town has five beaches: Cala Gran, Cala Ferrera, Cala Esmeralda, Cala d’Or, and Cala Serena. All the beaches are small coves surrounded by cliffs.

Playa de Illetes (Southwest section)

Illetes Beach is located in the southern part of the island, close to Palma’s center. Due to its central location, it can get crowded during the summer. You can rent sunbeds and umbrellas or simply lay down your towel on the free sections. I think it’s one of the best beaches in the center, with its sea and sand. Other beaches worth seeing in the southwest are Cala Major, Playa de Palma, and Cala Comptessa. I’ll share more detailed information about places to visit in the Palma area in a separate post.

Alcudia (Northern section)

Alcudia is a small town located in the north of Mallorca. I will share a separate post about the town of Alcudia, but for now, let me mention the beaches. There are many beautiful beaches in this area, but my favorite is Playa de Alcudia. With its stunning blue and turquoise waters and soft sands, it’s one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. Some other beaches in the northern region are Cala Formentor, Cala Figuera, Cala Murta, and Playa Muro. If your hotel is in the north, I highly recommend visiting these. We’re definitely considering staying in this area on our next visit to the island.

Colonia de Sant Jordi (Southern section)

Colonia de Sant Jordi is a small fishing village located in the southern part of the island. The only hot spring on Mallorca is found in this region. During our first trip to the island, we chose to stay in this area. The best beaches in the southern section are Es Trenc and Cala Pi. Es Trenc Beach is three kilometers long and one of the island’s most popular beaches. With its crystal-clear waters and white sandy beach, it should definitely be on your holiday list.

Cala Millor (Eastern section)

Cala Millor is a small resort town on the eastern side of Mallorca, ideal for a relaxing holiday. Cala Millor Beach is 1.8 km long and has soft white sands and clear turquoise waters. It has a Blue Flag designation, making it perfect for families with children. Aside from its beaches, there are many other places to see in this small town. For instance, the nearby Porto Cristo area is home to the Dragon Caves, which I think are a must-see. I’ll share a detailed post about the Dragon Caves soon.

While Mallorca is famous for its beaches, there are also many other places to see beyond the beaches. I will share several detailed posts about these must-see spots. Mallorca is a fantastic island where you can both relax by the sea and discover new places. We stayed for a week, but it wasn’t enough to explore everything. I think at least 2-3 weeks are needed to fully experience the island.
