Today, we are exploring the capital city of Mallorca, Palma, the largest of the Balearic Islands...
The Balearic Islands, an autonomous region of Spain, consist of Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca, Cabrera, and Formentera. Palma is the largest city on the island of Mallorca. The island was founded by the Romans and was finally annexed to Spain in the 19th century. Since then, the number of tourists has increased.

So, what can we explore in the center of Palma?
Bellver Castle
Built in the 14th century, this castle is one of the most beautiful in Spain. The area also houses an Archaeological Museum and a section exhibiting sculptures by Spanish artists. Since Bellver Castle is situated on a high hill, it offers a fantastic view of Palma Bay. You can reach the hill by bus or take a 25-30 minute walk from the city center.

Mallorca Cathedral
This Gothic-style cathedral is one of the city's most striking buildings. It’s impossible to miss when you are in the center. Between the 10th and 13th centuries, there was a mosque in this region during the Andalusian era. Later, it was demolished, and construction of the cathedral began in the 1300s. The interior of the cathedral is just as awe-inspiring as the exterior. We can say it is one of the most beautiful architectural structures we've seen in Europe. You can visit the inside of the cathedral, but it requires an entrance fee. If you want to enter immediately upon arrival, it is recommended to purchase tickets online in advance.
In front of the cathedral, there is a magnificent balcony with a view of Palma city and the port. I recommend taking a short break here.

Palma Almudaina Palace
If you visit Mallorca Cathedral, you should also check out the Almudaina Palace, located right next to it. This palace was used for official ceremonies by Spanish and Catalan kings in ancient times. Inside, you'll find a museum and Arab baths. The palace also has a beautiful garden, making it an ideal spot for photography.

S'Hort del Rei
This small garden is located right next to the cathedral and Almudaina Palace. It features a variety of fountains. When you're in the area, make sure to walk through it. It might also be a nice place for a short break, especially with street artists often performing here.

Palma Port Area
One of the liveliest areas in Palma de Mallorca is, of course, the port. There are many restaurants and clubs in the port area. If you want to experience nightlife, it’s worth noting that the clubs stay open until 6 a.m. Additionally, there are many large underground parking lots in the center, so parking won’t be a concern if you are arriving by car.

Palma Old Town
Palma’s old town is located within the city walls built in the 18th century to protect against pirates. This area features many century-old gates. We recommend exploring the buildings, churches, palaces, and historic homes on foot. Touching the walls of these historic houses will make you feel as if you’ve traveled back to ancient times.

Plaza Mayor and Plaza de España
Plaza Mayor and Plaza de España are Palma’s pedestrian-only shopping areas. In these historic squares, you’ll find street performers, souvenir shops, restaurants, and various other stores. Be sure to stop by these areas as well.

I absolutely loved the architectural structures in Palma. Even if you come to Mallorca for a beach vacation, don’t leave without seeing these places. If you have any other recommendations for Palma, don’t forget to add them in the comments section.
